Best Time of Day to Practice Piano

Scheduling time in our day to practice piano can be a challenge. It takes effort and commitment no matter when you pencil it in.

So when does it make most sense to sit at the bench? My advice: morning, or soon after you rise. Why? Because the mind is most alert and fresh, ready for eye-hand coordination and optimal memory retention.

Even 30 minutes in the morning can be more productive than one hour at night — when we’re tired, more easily distracted and prone to frustration.

Make piano practice part of an invigorating morning ritual. Incorporate it into a discipline of stretching, meditation, prayer, positive affirmations, or whatever it may be that sets a positive tone to your day…at the very least, a good cup of coffee or tea to accompany your morning scales.
