Composer John Williams certainly created unforgettable and powerfully associative music when he scored the soundtrack to the Star Wars films. The various themes tie the storylines together and represent important characters. We need only hear the single note repeated three times, followed by a descending third and then an ascending fifth, to know that Darth Vader is soon approaching.
It can be difficult to choose a favorite John Williams theme from Star Wars, and that is why medleys are so fun. They let you weave together classic themes, similar to the movements of a sonata, working together in either a complimentary or contrasting way.
In my piano medley above, three of the most-loved Star Wars themes are interwoven. Each theme is associated with a particular character. Can you identify which character matches which theme?
